Board Members

Alex Conn

Alex Conn has worked in the fields of telecommunications and software as well as integrative health care for over 25 years. Since 2002, Alex has been involved with existing early stage capital sources, and has worked with investment groups or VCs as a Venture Partner. Alex was the primary inventor on two patents, in nutraceuticals and in photochemical activation. He is currently working on thermo-electric recovery for photo voltaic energy systems. Alex has served as, or is, a Board Member of several small early stage companies including: Wellspace, an integrative health care facility; Nat-trop, a natural products company; Voter Vision, a political messaging; and The Contact Group, a communications company serving faith-based, advocacy and political organizations.

Martin Dayton, DO, MD

Martin Dayton, DO, MD has been integrating conventional medical care with complementary and alternative medicine for over thirty years. He is licensed as an osteopathic physician and surgeon (D.O.) by the state Florida. He is licensed in Arizona as a homeopathic physician MD (h). He has earned BS (research), D.O. and M.D. degrees and board certifications. Dr. Dayton is a clinician author, researcher, lecturer and teacher. He has also held professorial and teaching posts in clinical medicine. He is a senior attending physician at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center.

Barbara M. Dossey, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN

Barbara M. Dossey, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN is the world's foremost living nurse biographer of Florence Nightingale and is also internationally recognized as a pioneer in the holistic nursing movement. She is the recipient of numerous awards and has authored or co-authored 23 books including Florence Nightingale: Mystic, Visionary, Healer (2000) and Florence Nightingale Today: Healing, Leadership, Global Action (2005) and numerous related articles and book chapters. The focus of Dr. Dossey's work is holistic nursing, compassionate care of the dying, and the impact of Florence Nightingale's life and work on contemporary nursing and humankind. 

Roseanne Farano, MS, EdS

Roseanne Farano, MS, EdS received degrees in counseling and personnel services from the State University of New York at Albany and holds certifications in hypnotherapy, energy healing, and organizational development. Formerly a college professor, Farano has maintained a private psychotherapy practice for more than twenty years. A past dean of the acclaimed Barbara Brennan School of Healing, she is a widely renowned inspirational speaker and teacher on the subjects of psychodynamics, interpersonal relationships, the power of personal development, and the human energy field. She is a powerful and insightful storyteller and author who has several published articles including, “A World Class Woman”, and “A Regard for Life”, as well as the non-fiction book, “The Dove in Downward Flight”, which received a four-star-exceptional-must-read review from Today's Books.

Mark J. Gordon

Mark J. Gordon is a successful entrepreneur who established Just Jeans, a chain of 40 retail stores in the Midwest. Gordon then brought his business acumen to a fledgling company then called Florida Fulfillment. He transformed the company into a global leader of integrated marketing services. Renamed Precision Response Corp (PRC), the company was recognized four consecutive years as one of INC Magazines top 500 successful private entities. After a highly successful public offering, PRC, with more than 8,000 employees, became the industries second largest in-bound teleservices firm. In 2000, Mr. Gordon, then Chairman of the Board, sold PRC to USA Networks. Mark is a founding member of the Nothing But Nets Foundation, a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria in Africa.

Elson M. Haas, MD

Elson M. Haas, MD is a leader in the field of Integrative Medicine, and has been in medical practice for over 25 years. He specializes in Family and Nutritional Medicine, Detoxification, and Individualized Health Programs. He is a national speaker and author. His books include: Staying Healthy with Nutrition, Staying Healthy with the Seasons (fully revised 20th Anniversary 2003 edition), The False Fat Diet, The Staying Healthy Shopper's Guide, The Detox Diet, and A Cookbook for All Seasons.

Mark Hyman, MD

Mark Hyman, MD - Editor-in-Chief, Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, Medical Editor, Alternative Medicine. Dr. Hyman was Co-Medical Director at Canyon Ranch Lenox, an internationally acclaimed health resort where he combined the best of conventional and alternative medicine with a blend of science, intuition, integrity and compassion. He is the co-author of the recent New York Times bestselling book "Ultraprevention, the Six Week Plan that Will Make You Healthy for Life", and winner of the Books for Better Life Award. Marc M. Kesselman, DO, FACOI, FACC

Marc M. Kesselman, DO, FACOI, FACC President, CEO and Founder of Nerdhealth, LLC. Dr. Kesselman is Board Certified in the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine Subspecialty Board of Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (FACOI).

Karen Koffler, MD

Karen Koffler is a Family Medicine Physician and Medical Director at Canyon Ranch, Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Koffler is a graduate of Andrew Weil's Integrative Physician Fellowship program at the University of Arizona.

Andrea Larsen

Andrea Larsen is a Licensed Nutritional Consultant and the creator of Ultimate Nutrition & Health. Andrea is a successful innovator, educator and lecturer in the field of Holistic Health and Natural Healing for over twenty years. John Lewis, PhD

John Lewis is a Researcher and Assistant Professor at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences; and Director of Research for the Division of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Frank Lipman, MD

Frank Lipman, MD is the founder and director of the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in New York City, where he practices integrative medicine. Trained as a medical doctor in South Africa, he became board-certified in internal medicine after moving to the USA. Dr. Lipman has authored one book, Total Renewal: 7 Key Steps to: Resilience, Vitality & Long-Term Health (Tarcher/Putman 2003). Dr. Lipman sits on the Board of Urban Zen, EarthRose Institute, and Integrative Health Symposium. 

Victoria Maizes, MD

Victoria Maizes, MD is the Executive Director of the University of Arizona Program in Integrative Medicine and an Associate Professor of Medicine, Family and Community Medicine and Public Health. She is a graduate of Barnard College, received her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, College of Medicine, completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of Missouri, Columbia and her fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Maizes is recognized as an international leader in the field of Integrative Medicine. Under her stewardship the University of Arizona Program in Integrative Medicine has grown from a residential fellowship training four physicians each year to five fellowship programs training over 80 physicians annually. Having pioneered the Integrative Family Medicine Program, a collaborative educational model for family medicine residents, she is currently developing an innovative national model for educating primary care physicians. Dr. Maizes is a sought after lecturer for academic and community audiences on topics including integrative medicine, women's health, nutrition, aging, and cancer.

Neal Natkow, DO

Neal Natkow, DO is the Co-Founder of HealthExcel and served for several years as its Co-CEO and President. Dr. Natkow is Board Certified in Family Practice and is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners, and the Academy of Osteopathic Directors of Medical Education. Dr. Natkow has broad academic experience, including the chairmanship of the Department of General Practice at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and as the Associate Dean for Professional Affairs and Vice President for Professional Affairs at Southeastern University of the Health Sciences. After a stint as President of AMI Southeastern Medical Center, he co-founded Family Health Plan, Florida's first Medicaid HMO, serving as its President and CEO. When Family Health Plan was acquired by PCA, Dr. Natkow became CEO of PCA Health Plans of Florida, which was later acquired by Humana.

He served as an independent Director of Sheridan Healthcare (NASDAQ: SHCR) and Precision Response Corporation (NASDAQ: PRRC) until their acquisitions. He has published several articles, including, “Examining the Evolution, Benefits of MSO's” in the AOA's Managed Care Practice.

Daniel Nevel

Daniel Nevel is a licensed practitioner of Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture in Florida. He has studied at institutes in California, Florida, and China. He now runs a center for Chinese medicine in Florida and teaches workshops around the world on Chinese medicine.

Andrew Weil, MD

Andrew Weil, MD, has devoted the past thirty years to developing, practicing, and teaching others about the principles of integrative medicine. Dr. Weil combines a Harvard education and a lifetime of practicing natural and preventive medicine to provide a unique approach to health care which encompasses body, mind, and spirit.

He is the Founder and Director of the Program in Integrative Medicine (PIM) at the College of Medicine, University of Arizona, where he is also a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Professor of Public Health and the Lovell‐Jones Professor of Integrative Rheumatology. Dr. Weil received both his medical degree and his undergraduate AB degree in biology (botany) from Harvard University.
